One of the most commonly asked questions by our clients is: what is the difference between Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Vycross (Voluma, Volux, Volbella and Volift)?
Both Ultra and Vycross are Juvederm fillers which are made by Allergan.
There is a shorter answer and a longer answer to this. The short answer is that the Vycross range was specifically developed to give longer lasting results for clients. The Ultra range will give slightly shorter treatment times, however the immediate results are just the same.
Juvederm Ultra was the first filler product brought out by Allergan, whereas Juvederm Vycross is more recent.
What is the science behind these fillers?
Both are made from hyaluronic acid, a chemical which is naturally found in our skin and subdermal tissues which gives young skin its elasticity and ‘plumpness’. As we age, our natural hyaluronic acid tends to fade and thin and therefore these treatments simply replace it.
How does one last longer than the other?
The two types of filler are manufactured slightly differently. Essentially Vycross, the longer lasting filler product, has more cross linkages between the molecules that make up the hyaluronic acid. This makes it more difficult to break down, and therefore lasts longer in the body
Why pick Ultra over Vycross or vice versa?
For many clients, the difference is price. Vycross is a new product, which is more difficult to manufacture and therefore costs more to buy. As a result, fillers with Vycross products can be slightly more expensive than with Juvederm Ultra. At You Aesthetics in Nottingham, we offer both.
You should also consider however, that a client who picks Vycross over Ultra will have longer lasting treatment results, and therefore will most likely save much more money in the long run.
The other difference is that Juvederm Vycross is slightly better at integrating into the face’s natural tissues. This means that the treatment results are sometimes a little softer, however the differences are minimal, especially with the right practitioner.
How long does each filler last?
Allergan state that Ultra lasts 6-9 months, but in some clients it can be longer. On the other hand, the Vycross products last longer. Voluma and Volux last up to 24 months, Volift up to 15 months, Volbella up to 12 months.
Why so many different types? What is each type used for?
We have a page dedicated to which type of filler is used for which area of the face. Whilst there are two ranges, there are types of filler within each range which are each developed for a specific purpose. For example, at You Aesthetics in Nottingham, we may use Juvederm Ultra 3 and Volift and/or Volbella on the lips, depending on the client’s individual wants and needs.
At You Aesthetics, our aesthetic doctor Charlotte provides lip fillers, cheek fillers and anti-wrinkle injections at sites all around Nottingham. Click here to book a consultation with our doctor now!
