Many clients ask "at what age should I start getting Botox?". The answer really depends on you, the kind of look you are going for and how you and your aesthetic practitioner see your face changing in the future.
Any good aesthetic practitioner will tell you that Botox and other anti wrinkle treatments will not erase "static lines". These are lines that appear in your skin even when the face is at rest. Often, the first to appear are the glabella or "eleven" lines between the eyebrows or the crow's feet either side of the eye.
These lines are developed over time by the natural lines that occur when we are using the muscles of our face, for instance when we smile or frown. At first, these lines only appear when we use our muscles, but as we age they start to appear when we are relaxed too
Botox and other anti wrinkle treatments combat this by relaxing the muscles to reduce the appearance of static lines, but also to prevent the worsening of these lines too. The less movement in the muscle, the less chance of the wrinkles in the skin becoming deeper and more prominent, thus slowing the dermatological ageing process.
The age at which you should start with these treatments depends on what you want to achieve. Obviously, the younger you start, the less likely and slower these static lines will appear. However, that doesn't mean every young person should get botox immediately!
Static lines can start to appear between tbe ages of 25 and 30 and start to become more pronounced between the ages of 30 and 40. If you want to really reduce the development of these lines, it may be sensible to begin injections between the ages of 25 and 30, depending on your face and its natural movements.
This, of course, comes with the caveat that the younger you start, the less movement you will have in these muscles for the rest of your life. This may not be right for some people who prefer a more "natural look" and do not mind the natural ageing process.
Whilst no amount of botox can completely prevent these lines from occurring, it is clear that we can slow down their development and reduce their appearance if we use botox as a preventative measure.
